POP SINGER SALMAN LAUNCHES ANTI-AIDS DRIVE ISLAMABAD: Popular pop singer Salman Ahmad launched a campaign to create awareness and educate youth against AIDS through music. Addressing a press conference here at UN Information Centre, he said, "through awareness, persuasion and education we can prevent people specially youth to avoid AIDS which is an incurable and deadly disease." Executive Director of National Institute of Health (NIH) Dr Ather Saeed Dil; NIH Director Public Health Dr Berjees Mazhar Qazi; UN Country Programme Advisor on AIDS in Pakistan, Dr Kristan Schoultz and UN Information Centre Director Eric Falt also addressed the press conference. Salman Ahmad said: "I'm extremely honoured to be given the responsibility of being the United Nations spokesperson for AIDS awareness in Pakistan. I've agreed to accept the UN offer because of my commitment to the social uplift of the people of Pakistan." |
